The Sweet Sixteen
Mustangs advance to Round 2 of the 5A playoffs
October 30, 2018
This past weekend, the E.P. Varsity Football team proudly represented mustang nation with a thrilling win against Walter Payton College Prep. This was by far the most impressive win the boys varsity football team has portrayed throughout this entire season, and it can easily be stated that this night was a proud one to be a mustang.
Rival school Walter Payton College Prep, who happened to be well known for their impressive record of 9-0, were quickly scored on within the first few minutes of the first quarter. With tensions in the air between both teams, the Mustangs were bound to witness an exciting game. Senior Karlton Carpenter stunningly scored an 80 yard touchdown putting the mustangs on the scoreboard following the impressive punt kicked by sophomore Nolan Bruce. This was followed by touchdowns being scored by Myron Harris, Sean Wilkinson, William Tharps, and Robert Streator throughout the game. Walter Payton’s wish of keeping their winning streak alive was quickly destroyed by the amount of hard work and effort that the varsity football team illustrated on Friday night. This game was a very crucial game to win because it is the very first playoff game of the season.
We are all proud of the varsity football team and expect many more victories to come within the playoff season. EPCHS Varsity Football have now advance in the playoffs and are expected to play at Evergreen Park High School next Saturday at 5 o’clock against Elmwood Park.
