The Dance Team on day two of the tournament

This year, the EPCHS Varsity Dance Team, coached by Marion Castillo, Qualified for the 2020 State Finals.  From day one, Coach Castillo said that it’s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication for Evergreen Park to qualify for State Finals because EDT (Evergreen Dance Team) is unknown in the dance world.

EDT had a very successful competitive season which included being Sectional runner-ups that earned them a spot in the IHSA Competitive Dance State Finals, where the best of the best dance teams from Illinois come together to compete for the State title over a course of three days.  This year’s state tournament was held in Bloomington, IL at the Grossinger Motors Arena. The EDT stayed at a Holiday Inn, ate dinner/lunch at various restaurants, bonded with each other, and had a lot of fun.

Everyone was nervous on day one of the competition because this was the biggest arena EDT had performed in. “I was smiling and sad that this could be my last time doing this awesome routine!” Said Senior Shioban Moran.

Each team was classified into three different divisions with only the top 12 teams in each division moving on to day two.  When Evergreen Park was called out for day two, the whole team was jumping up and down with excitement and couldn’t.

Making the top 10 became the focus on day two.  The team’s determination and drive showed through the routine: EDT made history and made the top 10!  The Evergreen Park Varsity Dance Team has definitely shown other dance teams that they may–Start Unknown, Finish Unforgettable!
