At the first wrestling meet of the year, the Mustang Wrestling squad faced off against the Westmont Sentinels and the Sandwich Indians. The Mustangs came up short in their first matchup against Sandwich, with a final overall score of 36-42. In the second match against Westmont, EP won 39-30.

Coach Zimmerman said about the close loss to the state-ranked Sandwich team, “I hope our guys are motivated to work even harder. We had a very good shot to beat a good team, just fell a bit short.”

With the first meet behind them, Zimmerman has high hopes. “Looking at our lineup as the season progresses,” Zimmerman said, “I feel we can win a lot of matches. It’s up to the kids to get to the right weight! Our lower weights are going to be tough, but it’s up to our upperweights to pick up the slack.”

Junior Jake McClain said about his expectations for himself this year, “My expectation for this season is to do the best I can do to succeed and become better. I’m not looking for pins at this point in my career but if the pins there I’ll take it. I’m looking to place in Conference. I’m going to try to make it to state and through regionals and sectionals but I’m going to have some really tough kids.”
